Members of the Westchester Del Rey Softball & Tee Ball Community,
You may recall from team announcement day that our league has three core priorities:
- Kids First
- Build Community
- Help kids learn to play and enjoy softball and tee ball
The 2025 girls’ softball and co-ed tee ball seasons brought those priorities to life. Together, we:
- Competed against teams from more than 20 different leagues through continued participation in Little League and USA Softball, including Select and Fall Ball.
- Enhanced our player development programs by hosting “Mondays on Mace”--defensive skills clinics paired with hitting and pitching lessons.
- Formed two all-school tee ball teams: the Covenant Presbyterian Crew and the Westside Neighborhood School Jets.
- Hosted the 11th Annual Major Division Border War Softball Tournament and welcomed the re-establishment North Venice Little League Softball.
- Recognized by and invited to affiliate with the Alliance Fastpitch Futures Leagues, a program dedicated to developing skilled players and coaches.
- Selected by Little League West Region to host the 2025 8-10-Year-Old Southern California State Tournament on Mace Field.
- Welcomed the Stephanie Younger Group as our third and final scoreboard sponsor, joining Lulu’s Place and Post 424.
Yes, we faced our annual challenges with Mother Nature, but we successfully held Team Announcements and kicked off the 51st season of girls’ softball and the 21st season of co-ed tee ball with Erin Trapp, a former collegiate softball player and Deputy Executive Director Major Events & Strategy at LAWAW throwing out the first pitch at Opening Day Ceremonies.
On the field, our young athletes demonstrated the true meaning of teamwork—working together toward shared goals and supporting each other every step of the way. Candidly, it wouldn’t be youth sports without a bit of adult drama. Fortunately, our players set the tone with exemplary sportsmanship, respecting their peers, thanking the volunteer officials, and finishing every game with a heartfelt “Thank you, parents” on Mace or parents’ tunnel on the grass!
As one a few programs affiliated with both Little League International and USA Softball, we’re privileged to play with a wide range of leagues. Our teams held their own, and the hours of practice paid off, leading to exciting games and lasting memories. I’m excited to field competitive All-Star teams this summer.
None of this would have been possible without dedicated volunteers—board members, coaches, managers, and all the behind-the-scenes contributors who devote time, energy, and passion to ensure the season runs smoothly. Your commitment and passion for the kids, games and league is deeply appreciated.
To our parents and family fans, thank you for your continued support. Your cheers and encouragement created a vibrant, joyful atmosphere at every game. Nothing brings me more joy than watching the tee ballers rolling around on the grass and softball siblings playing hide-n-seek in the trees behind the score booth on Rotary Picnic Area.
As we reflect on another remarkable season at Carl E. Nielsen Park, let’s celebrate our success, learn from our challenges, and continue striving for excellent on and off the fields.
Thank you—and congratulations to all!
Warmly,
Jim Evans
